
Intro
Ruiming Zhang has extensive experience in instrumental composition, especially music for the orchestral, chamber ensembles, and piano. Aside from composition, he specializes in engraving, as well as orchestral conducting. As of 2025, he is studying Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music, expecting to graduate in 2026.

Scoring & Composition
Ruiming Zhang has scored various student projects and short films, including a set of short film rescores for his portfolio. As of 2025, aside from these smaller scaled projects, he has served as an orchestrator on two theatrical films, Hovering Blade (2024) and Wandering Days (2025), working under the renowned Chinese film composer, Liu Ye.

Ruiming has also composed various single movement orchestral and concert band works. His orchestral writing focuses on a lush and harmonically complex sound, with strong influences from late romanticism and the film scoring discipline of golden age Hollywood. A selection of his orchestral works are available on YouTube as score videos, and the scores will be made available soon under Eisbär Editions.

Aside from orchestral works, he regularly composes short piano pieces that work well as etudes or short recital pieces. His piano writing features styles echoeing late romanticism and impressionism of the early 20th century, as well as a jazz-influenced harmonic language. These works are made available on IMSLP as well aas under Eisbär Editions.

Score Prep & Engraving
Ruiming also specializes in music engraving and notation. In the films for which he orchestrated, he also served as a music copyist, preparing scores and parts of his orchestration for the recording session.
He is fluent in the Hollywood copyist score prep standard, engraving industry-ready scores and parts for recording sessions, as well as in the classical music publication discipline. His independent music engraving house, Eisbär Editions, focuses on publishing public domain classical music under a modernized engraving standard, as well as providing an engraving service for composers wishing to have their compositions engraved at a publication standard.

Conducting
Ruiming Zhang has been classically trained as a conductor. He has studied conducting under the renowned composer and current Conductors Guild president, Julius P. Williams.
As of 2025, he is an Assistant Music Director at Berklee Motion Picture Orchestra, the largest student-run ensemble of the college. He regularly rehearses the orchestra and conducts in its concerts. He also directs his choir, the Chinese Chamber Choir at Berklee. ​Aside from working with concert groups, he has also regularly conducts recording sessions.
